My name is Tini (日本語で, ティニー) & this is my Japanese Comedy blog! I decided that since I like to have random outbursts about お笑い (Owarai) that it was steadily becoming worthy of a place to throw it all in. I feel like Japanese comedy is really hilarious, and something that I want to share my enthusiasm about! I hope that other fans will find this blog interesting or maybe even informative. [:

My dream is to become a comedian in Japan one day. I watch shows as a fan and as practice so to speak. I'm also currently studying Japanese, so entries will be in 日本語 at times. I'll keep aiming for my goal!

How I Got Into Owarai?
Being a fan of Japanese media in general, you'll see guests on shows and wonder, "Who is that? Where are they from?" Things of that nature. Eventually you start to remember faces and then you start to look them up. That's about what occurred when I decided to look up comedians like Bananaman & Audrey. Also being an Arashi fan, on Arashi no Shukudai-kun, their guests basically consist of comedians and actors/actresses. So throughout my span of watching AnS (and other Arashi shows), I've learned about tons of new comedians.

When I went to Japan last year, I basically would watch nothing but Arashi in the start, because I didn't know too many other shows. Slowly I started getting into popular comedy/variety shows and learned about even MORE comedians. At the end of last year, I actually looked up the comedians on YouTube and Veoh, to watch their skits. I really started paying attention to the differences between manzai and conto comedy, took the time to learn names & faces.

This year has been the biggest 'boom' for me so to speak, and I've pretty much absorbed myself into the owarai 'fandom,' or slight fandom as it were! I watch shows like Red Theater, Lincoln, Ame Talk, etc on a regular basis. I actually buy merchandise, as I would for Arashi. I even spent money to see my favorite conbi perform live this summer. I know that's a weird thing to point out but aside from owarai & Arashi, I wouldn't spend a ton of money on a show overseas. It's not cheap. It's pretty much as much of a fixture in my daily watch schedule as any regular Arashi program.

It's a lot of fun and it is its own sect of entertainment. It's not really comparable to anything else, and it really does have its own army of fans in Japan, akin to Johnny's Entertainment. It's one of Japan's longest lasting forms of entertainment though, so I can see why. I realize its a weird thing to be really hardcore about but I love to laugh like burning. I think laughter is the absolute way to my heart, so it was almost inevitable. [:

I've really been stretching my outlook and watching a lot of the seasoned geinin, because they've been doing it for a while. So I love a lot of senpai groups, as well as newer groups.

Manzai vs Conto?
Personally, I enjoy conto. It's because I'm learning Japanese though, and sometimes Manzai can be difficult to understand. Conto, or skits, is pretty straightforward and has a lot of physical comedy. That's always easy to understand!
